Grand daddy purple strain

Introduced in 2003 by Ken Estes, Granddaddy Purple (or GDP) is a famous indica cross of Purple Urkle and Big Bud. This California staple inherits a complex grape and berry aroma from its Purple Urkle parent, while Big Bud passes on its oversized, compact bud structure. GDP flowers bloom in shades of deep purple, a contrasting backdrop for its snow-like dusting of white crystal resin.

Its potent effects are clearly detectable in both mind and body, delivering a fusion of cerebral euphoriaand physical relaxation. While your thoughts may float in a dreamy buzz, your body is more likely to find itself fixed in one spot for the duration of GDP’s effects. Granddaddy Purple is typically pulled off the shelf for consumers looking to combat pain, stress, insomnia, appetite loss, and muscle spasms. GDP blesses growers with massive yields which are ready for harvest following a 60 day flowering time indoors.

More About Granddaddy Purple

Granddaddy Purple (aka Grand Daddy Purps) is one of the most popular Indica strains on the west coast and is perhaps the most well known ‘purple’ cannabis strain in the US.

Created back in 2003 by Ken Estes in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ken and his team sought out to create the ultimate Indica hybrid by merging two strains with fantastic genetics – Purple Urkle and Big Bud. The product of these two, Grand Daddy Purple, is a spitting image of it’s parents’ two best qualities – the deep and dark purple hue from Purple Urkle and the overgrown, dense buds of Big Bud. The dark purple buds blend well with the bright orange hairs and frosted white trichomes that generously cover the bud making it an extremely photogenic strain.

From San Francisco down to Los Angeles, Granddaddy Purple is one of the most sought after Indica strains due to it’s Hollywood looks and classic Indica effects. Despite this popularity, however, many growers and those working in the dispensary world have claimed that Grand Daddy Purps is almost identical to another famous purple strain – Grape Ape.

Some even go so far as to speculate that these two strains may be in fact the same. Others simply say that they are so eerily similar in lineage, look, taste, and effects that they are simply confused with one another by growers, dispensaries, and consumers alike.

Effects

Perfect for night time use, Grand Daddy Purple hits both the body and mind initially but quickly fades into a smooth body buzz like most heavy Indicas do. For patients Granddaddy Purps is ideal for pain management. It can also be effective at treating insomnia, depression and anxiety. Novice users beware though, this strain can pack a powerful punch. We’d recommend starting with a hit or two and waiting a few minutes before opting to consume more

Growing

Granddaddy Purple grows best indoors but can be grown outside as well. Flowering commences usually around 70-77 days when grown indoors and growers can expect harvest in early October when grown outdoors. The oversized buds may begin to weigh down the plant, especially if grown outdoors. When grown indoors the plant should be short and stocky enough to hold the weight but you may want to prepare to offer some support around the 60 day mark if you notice the buds beginning to wear down the plant’s frame. Yields can top 4 ounces per plant on an indoor grow and well over 3 pounds per plant on an outdoor grow. For optimal results keep temperatures within the 70’s throughout the grow cycle and keep humidity between 50-55%.

I am a fan of all the cloud 9 establishments. Their selection is fire.

Love mission organic!! Best meds in the Bay and reasonable prices too. If you want quality and want to go to a clean and safe shop go here. My personal favorite are the edibles. Had a double fudge chocolate chip cookie that tasted like something from a bakery (couldn’t taste any weed) and got me nice and baked! Best weed shop in SF by far!

Horrible experience …I purchased 3 cartridges at.30$ a piece. When I got them home, I opened the packages. 2 out of the 3 cartridges were leaking and only had about 1/3 remaining in each. The store refused to make the situation right. The manager actually lied to my face and repackaged the defective items. This place also has a looney looking balding creepy fellow working there. He seems to creepy for words . Anyhow many better establishments out there to provide quality customer service. This is not such a place

I tried Granddaddy Purple for the first time last night. For the first time in a long time I ‘blacked out’. When I say blacked out I mean I have no memory of doing certain things. I’ve been smoking since I was twelve and I am now fifty-one. This is one of the best Indica strains I have ever smoked. The taste is amazing. A complex blend of fruitiness and berries with a little earthiness. Very smooth. The first two joints I smoked got me into a good couch lock for about an hour or so. The third joint is the one that I lost some time with. I have no memory of getting undressed and going to bed or my neighbors playing loud music and me yelling, “Are you serious?” and the music shutting off. This is some really, really good weed.

One of my go to strains, the high kind of sneaks up on me like a slow ramp up. The high is very mellow and relaxing; although it is easy to take too much and it can get away from you. Too much and I am stuck in my head for hours on end. Great as a smoke, tincture or if you want to mess with yourself; as a concentrate as well

For my DNA, I can always count on GP to put me where I need to be. The most dependent high. You can’t go wrong with this one !

I recently bought a Delta 8 THC cart with this strain and I’m really enjoying it so far! I have anxiety and depression and this strain has really helped me manage them, and not just in the moment of being high. highly recommend this strain!

I was getting very addicted to Xanax and was looking for a strain that replaced that sedative feeling I got from Xanax and GDP Delivered that same feeling and It was even better

Nice – slow build. Like sliding into a good couch for relaxation & entertainment. Nice & Easy

Great for insomnia because all I want to do after smoking GDP is sleep. Don’t smoke this strain during the day!!

  • 5 out of 5

I am not a indica fan. Never have been I’ve pretty much looked at indica as primarily a tool for sleep, pain, sativas have always been my go to mood elevating strains. I just had GP and I took it for pain. In about a half hr it kicked some serious pain in the teeth. That being said, talk about a relaxing, definitely mood elevating strain. Very nice. It became my favorite indica, pretty much immediately. What pain? Unbelievably great for pain. Wow

This strain is extremely my shit. The pain relief and the feel good vibes…amazing evening high. Buds are littered with amber and white trichomes and the smell is heavenly.

Classic, classic strain. I don’t do a lot of “recreational” smoking of this one, but I vape a couple of draws almost nightly before bed. Easily puts me down and out for at least 6-7 hours, which for an iffy sleeper like me is pretty freaking amazing. Wish I could bring some when I’m traveling outside Cali, but yep, that’ll have to wait.

Excellent strain, really helps me sleep well every night and that’s saying something, plus it smells and tastes amazing, love my Granddaddy Purple

An outstanding choice for pain, insomnia, and anxiety. Love the bud structure and flavor.

Oh, hell yes! Beautiful indica strain, calms, puts a radiant smile on your face, and lulls you to sleep. Only tried this in vape; would like to try flower, too. An all-time fav.

I tried Granddaddy Purple for the first time yesterday. I’d looked forward to trying it all week after reading these reviews. Seriously, I think I was MORE excited to try the strain than a kid looks forward to Christmas. The taste is so sweet. The smoke is thick and heavy with the sweet under taste. Nice! 5 minutes later….nothing. No effects whatsoever. 10 minutes in, my only effect was boredom. No! 15 minutes in, I decided I must have inhaled wrong or something. 17 minutes in, just as I was going to grab the bong for another go HELLO GRANDDADDY! To say I was stoned would be an understatement. I’m pretty sure my butt melded with the couch. I was pretty much capable of watching and re-watching trailers on On Demand. I wanted food. All the food. Thank God I was trapped by some unseen force and couldn’t get off the couch. Granddaddy Purple was slow acting, but Negasonic level badass in it’s punch. Tread carefully. This is definitely a nighttime strain. Unless your daytime gig involves watching the Deadpool trailer 19 times, you probably don’t want to try this when you need to be productive. Pain is powerless against GP. So is nausea, anxiety, annoyance and insomnia. This strain would probably set you back to good after drinking 32 cups of coffee and getting hit by a bus.

Granddaddy Purple is powerful medicine for pain, neuropathy, and insomnia. It is a long lasting strain! It starts off with sativa effects but totally goes indica and will put you to sleep. Be careful if you drink with this strain as it will wipe you out! Your not getting much done with this strain. And finally it does have some slight paranoia. I would say the strain I had was 70/30 indica dominant.

I love reading reviews when people say smoking indica buds will have you on your ass, but as a true stoner these are the strains im always hunting for. A lot of Sativas produce a nice body high but intensify the feeling of anxiety. I’ve always used the saying, “Do the drug, dont let the drug do you”. If you suffer from Pain, Anxiety, Depression, Sleep Apnea, Loss of appetite, etc. then you’re looking for a strong indica strain. I like Girl Scout Cookies because of the potency and strong effects. And again, if you smoke and then get lazy or pass out, then you’re smoking too much, or you’re just a lightweight

This is my all time favorite, perfect amount of euphoria and body relaxation, enough to put me down but not fall asleep. I use it during day and evening. It’s like gold.

  • 3 out of 5

Just tried this for the first time. It really does smell and taste sweet like berries. GDP struck me as a creeper strain. I didn’t realize how high I was until I tried to actually do things. I totally lost track of my phone for about a half hour. This feels very sedative. It’s a very heady high that to me almost feels like a sativa, but it is relaxing instead of energetic. This is definitely a evening and night strain. I feel very mentally relaxed. More than any other strain has made me feel. My head feels empty, but in a good way. Like my problems, anxieties, and negative thoughts are being blocked or taken out of my head. This is truly a strain to help you de-stress and forget about a bad or stressful day. I have a feeling this will help me fall asleep quite easy. This strain is great for what I wanted it for. I like this strain. I rate it a 4.5.

  • 5 out of 5

This is my go-to Indica. One toke during the day makes me feel less pain, happy and not sleepy. More is great for sleep. But it has cerebral nuances that make me feel creative and relaxed at the same time. I also must say that my favorite cartridge’s strain is GDP, hands down, and that can take you to the moon!

  • 3 out of 5

GDP! This is by far one of my favorite stains. There is something special about purple buds. I love the physical high of this strain, it’s so heavy and relieving. After smoking it, you just sit back and think, “WOW” I am HIGH!

A norcal classic. and a beloved staple. sweet candy grape berry notes with hints of earthy spice. the effects are heavy relaxation and euphoric uplift with a spaciness. a great night time or evening strain. Does wonders at 356F (180c) vape temps. Great flavor, great effects. Def a heavy eyelid strain!

  • 5 out of 5

Taste taste taste thats what this strain is all about. Its a heavy indica and there’s plenty of those available. The taste is what sets it apart from others. The buds are typically dense and big. I had a batch one time that were 7gr nuggets lol just clubs. Love it and always have some on hand.

  • 5 out of 5

This not only brought on a mild euphoria, it made me forget my arthritis which is priceless

  • 3 out of 5

Ugh what a let down honestly lol. Maybe,y tolerance is to high these days… 33 been smoking since 18…. i’ve just read such great things about the strain and I got some very good looking flower and rather pleasant smelling purple sour smell. The actual high was quite a letdown though,,, no special euphoria of the mind or the body and it actually took more than a couple tokes to get me feeling faded at all. ✌️ some of the apparent classics just don’t live up to the hype these days.

  • 5 out of 5

Coined my user name thanks to GDP ! This strain knocks me out cold every time so its great for insomnia BUT My wife on the other hand says sex is incredible with it and its pretty obvious ! Relaxes ALL the right places and greatly enhances senses especially touch making for extended mind blowing orgasms. **Ladies…WE strongly encourage you to try this one !!!
